MKMI - Umbilicup is used for cord blood collection, stem cell collection,
umbilical cord blood collection, cordblood transport, and blood gas collector. Other uses are for collection of fetal stem cells, embroyonic stem cells,
cord blood, umbilical cord blood removal, blood gas collector, cordblood fetal cells, maternal blood, and large volume blood transport.
Nowadays, there is a fear of needle injuries to obstetric personnel who are routinely exposed to blood or fluid contact during deliveries.
This fear is of a greater risk of HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and other potentially infectious contacts.
A group of professionals realized this fear and developed a new device called the
Umbilicup. (U.S. Patent 5,342,328)
The Umbilicup I is used for umbilical cord sampling, blood gas collection, and also acts as a transporting device for lab testing without utilization of an exposed sharp needle while reducing the exposure of blood by the user.
The Umbilicup II is a collection device to facilitate large volume cord blood collection including stem cell separation and preservation.
